The Diptych of the Duchess and Duke of Urbino is made up of a double wooden board with a joint right at the middle, allowing it to open and close just like a book. The board features three paintings signed by Piero della Francesca.
On the back of the board are the portraits of Federico da Montefeltro and his wife, Battista Sforza. On the front is the allegorical representation of the Dukes’ TRIUMPHS. The painting was originally showcased in Urbino’s Ducal Palace and was later moved to Florence, when the house of Montefeltro became extinct.
