Renaissance Splendor and Triumphs at Urbino court

August 20 - We will discover the splendor of a grand dynasty, the Montefeltro, starting from the landscapes painted by Master Piero Della Francesca, whom we will then meet.
We will visit an unknown Urbino, enjoying the sunset from Albornoz fortress and a nocturnal tour!

Renaissance Splendor and Triumphs at Urbino court

In the late fifteenth century duke Federico da Montefeltro turned a coarse lineage of soldiers, who were everything but high-born, into one of the most renowned and powerful dynasties of the time, reaching the level of the best educated and refined Renaissance courts – Medici, Sforza, Gonzaga and Este.

During the afternoon and evening we will walk on the territories and we will admire the splendor. We will begin with Piana di San Silvestro, background of the famous Diptych of the Duke and Duchess of Urbino by Piero Della Francesca, best example of political and military power. Here we will meet Piero Della Francesca, who will tell us about his masterpiece.

We will then move to Urbino, power center of the duchy and architectural gem of Italian Renaissance.

From the top of Albornoz fortress we will admire from a distance the wonders of the ducal palace at sunset, then we will reach it and admire the details as sun goes down, in a pleasant and suggestive nocturnal walk among alleys and piole, towers and bastions, symbols of the greatness and magnificence of the duke.
